Obituary for Lois Lorraine Mauldin (Mauldin)

Lois Lorraine Mauldin, age 94, of Canton, GA passed away Friday, January 10, 2014 at Northside Hospital Cherokee.

Memorial services are scheduled for Feb. 9, at 3:00 P.M. from the Seventh-day Adventist Church, 101 Rope Mill RD, Woodstock, GA.

Lois Lorraine Mauldin was born June 9, 1919 to Grover and Mary Hooper Mauldin. At an early age, she had a strong desire for education. After graduating from Canton High School, she attended Southern University at Collegedale, Tennessee, earning her Bachelor's degree. She then earned a Master's degree from the University of Maryland. She received a six year Specialist degree from Georgia State University.

While studying at the University of Maryland, she was an assistant dean of nurses at Washington Union College. Subsequently, she taught elementary school in Knoxville, Tennessee and Atlanta, Georgia. Fortunately, she returned home in 1956 and began her teaching career at the new Cherokee High School in the English Department. Her career also included summer and evening classes. She was a dedicated teacher with a genuine love of her students.

As a devout Christian, she was a member of Cherokee Seventh-day Adventist Church. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Z.L. and Lloyd Mauldin.

Survivors include, nieces, Kathy (Herbert) Johnson, Canton; Carol (Jim) Furlong, Woodland, CA; nephew, Bill (Marilyn) Mauldin, Moreno, CA; special care giver, Lisa Cannon.
