On Valentine’s Day, this year, my daughter, Alexa, and I were reminiscing about Mr. White. Alexa is a senior in college now, but had Mr. White as her chorus teacher in middle school. I believe it was Valentine’s Day 2009 that Mr. White had a concert where any of his students were allowed to sing, as long as the theme was “love.” Honestly, I don’t generally love chorus concerts, because I don’t recognize the music, but this day was different. One of the students sang “Bubbly” by Colbie Caillat, and my daughter and my niece also sang. Not every song was sung perfectly, but this concert will go in my record books as one of my favorite concerts ever. Mr. White had the ability to make all his students feel special and valuable, and amazingly, it had nothing to do with their ability to carry a tune. Mr. White was an amazing teacher, mentor, and friend to his students. As a parent, I know that my children benefitted from time spent with him. Thank you for touching the lives of Jake and Alexa and so many others!
